Property La Buscada: A Hidden Gem in Uruguay's Rolling Hills
5 Bedroom 4 bathroom Chacra on 50 hectares. Hidden away 1.5 hours away from Punta Del Este. 850 - 950K USD
What I wished I had before coming to Uruguay was a personal shopper for properties. There are so many websites and various prices for the same property. It felt confusing and disorienting.
Over time I will share properties I think would suit international buyers. Giving my honest take on properties to save people time and energy.
Last week I went to visit La Buscada. Listed on multiple websites:
At 950K
And Mercado Libre for 850K
My thoughts after visiting the property:
La Buscada ("The Search") is a tastefully renovated former dance hall offering the perfect blend of seclusion and sophisticated country living. Upon arriving at the property, I was struck when La Buscada comes into view. Perched 309 meters above sea level with breathtaking 360-degree mountain views, surrounded by hills, with no other houses in sight. Just rocky hills, open sky, and the neighbors small wine production across the street. This turnkey property includes 48 hectares of land (Almost 119 acres), already rated and broken down by the municipal as 18 hectares of native mountain terrain with 20 hectares of productive land.
The property is being sold by an older Argentine couple who wishes to be closer to their family. Their attention to detail and commitment to preserving the building's character while adding modern amenities makes this property truly unique in the region.

What stands out about this property is the how livable it feels. Often rural properties are not built to western standards and need some work. Renato and his wife have done a great job. It’s well-maintained, newly painted, and thoughtfully done.
The Property
Under one acre of landscaped grounds surrounding the house, easy to self maintain
Mature eucalyptus trees providing natural shade and windbreak
Year-round flowing river with waterfall
High-capacity well (12,000 liters/hour, 30+ meters deep)
Flat area ideal for additional construction, gardens, or workshops
Perfect for small-scale livestock operations
Currently used for free-range horses and sheep
Past the trees, on the right side of the property, is a fence to separate the park from the rest of the land. The land on the right side is flat and requires less clearing, making it an ideal spot for a garden, shed, or workshop. From this vantage point, the 360-degree mountain views are simply stunning. I think it could be a great location for building a second structure on the property.
Who I think this would be a good home for:
A family or couple who are total homebodies. Remote workers desiring a peaceful retreat, or an authentic campo lifestyle. Those who are nature enthusiast or want to be hobby farmers. Matt and I love staying in the campo. We don’t really need to go to town and socialize constantly in Jose Ignacio. We aren’t big beach people and on an ideal day we walk around the property with our dogs, spend time checking the animals, and spend the evenings with wine and books in the living room.
This home is closer to Minas than Punta making it easier to get essential goods at the TATA grocery store in Minas. But not too far that if the future owners wanted more luxury goods and a better restaurant scene Punta is an hour away.
This home is for the couple or family that’s largest priority is privacy and nature. Someone who couple doesn’t want a high maintenance piece of land but land that more can be added to if desired.
I feel that it is fairly valued at turnkey condition with good finishes. The construction costs for a home like this today would be significantly higher. The land is priced very competitive for the price per hectare.
